JSKS is a non-profitable, non-governmental, humanitarian development organization, established in 1983, has been implementing development interventions in poverty stricken northern part of Bangladesh in visioning – “a poverty free society where human rights and social justice be promoted, built local capacity, eliminated child vulnerability and gender discrimination and reduced climate-change-vulnerability” where social, economic and environment are the programmatic sectors.
Historical Background:
JSKS is the acronym of “Jhanjira Samaj Kallyan Sangstha”. Its literary meaning is “Jhanjira (village name) Social Welfare Organization”. It is a non-profitable, non-political, non-government development organization. The birth of the Organization may be traced back in the activities of a local club at Jhanjira of sadar Upazila, Dinajpur district, one of the backward and disaster prone northwestern District of Bangladesh.
JSKS was established in October 10, 1983. After establishing the organization and leading it to the path of progress the founding main initiator Mr. Khademul Hoque died in a road accident in 1989 which eclipsed the activities of the organization for a long time. However the management controls the situation and the present Executive Director Mr. Mustafa Kamal took over the Leadership and restarted & continued the development activities of the organization again from December 1991.
During this period existence in development, it has been implementing numerous development projects. Initially, it was started its activities at local level focusing Social Development and Humanitarian support. Later on, it was emerged as Non Government Organization (NGO) and has got registration from Directorate of Social Service and NGO Affairs Bureau, Government of the Peoples Republic of Bangladesh as well.
By this time, organization got funding support from numerous national and international donors. With the funding and technical assistance from aforesaid multi-donor, it started to work intensively for the Socio-economic independence of the poor, disadvantaged and discriminated people of this region. By this time organization has proved its ability, transparency and quality in program implementation. So far, organization has been completed different development program during this period with the full satisfaction of the donor, Government and program participants.
It has strong active and transparent management system. The General Council and Executive Committee members of the organization have proven dedication and commitment to the organization. The election of Executive Committee members take place in a quite transparent way and every month they sit once to review organizational progress and discuss further quality improvement of the organization. All those effort make the organization unique of its nature.
Legal Status:
During last 30 years (1983-2013) confront existence in development; it has been implementing numerous development projects. Initially, it was started its activities at local level focusing Social Development and Humanitarian support. Later on, it was emerged as development organization and got registration of Social Service Department in 1987 and NGO Affairs Bureau in 1997 as well.

JSKS works for establishment of social justice, eradicate poverty & illiteracy and to foster human dignity. It is known as an active development partner especially for the people live under poverty line, women and children to facilitate sustainable changes by challenging the forces in the society that produce and reinforce poverty and discrimination.
Goal:
Poor and vulnerable community has an enabling environment for sustainable improvement of their status. They are demonstrated their own capacity to influence practices for the appropriate development of children, to eradicate poverty, reduce vulnerability, reduce discrimination against poor, children, women & ethnic in north-west region of Bangladesh.
