International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples 2025 -JSKS Initiatives:

Under the theme “Indigenous Peoples and AI: Defending Rights, Shaping Futures,” JSKS, in collaboration with indigenous-led organizations, observed the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples 2025 across four upazilas of Dinajpur with vibrant rallies, discussion meetings, and cultural performances.

In Birol, the event was jointly organized by JSKS, CDA, and World Vision, with UNO Mr. Indrajit Saha announcing a monthly action plan for citizens and prioritizing resolution of pending land cases, while the Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) committed to swift legal support, and a memorandum was submitted to the Chief Adviser through the UNO.

In Dinajpur Sadar, held at the Indigenous Peoples Cultural Center, Suihari, speakers including Mr. Albinus Tudu, President of BAMM, and JSKS Executive Director Mustafa Kamal highlighted systemic land dispossession, cultural erosion, and lack of representation, calling for a dedicated Land Commission for plains indigenous communities.

In Kaharole, organized with Kaharole Adivasi Samaj Unnayan Somity, the rally and discussion focused on land rights, education, and livelihood, with a cultural program celebrating traditional music and dance.

In Birganj, led by Birganj Thana Adivasi Samaj Unnayan Samity, the event featured a rally from the Upazila Complex to Makrai, a discussion chaired by Convener Mr. Josef Hemrom, and cultural performances showcasing Indigenous heritage. Across all upazilas, the events served as powerful platforms for advocacy, solidarity, and reaffirmation of the rights, dignity, and resilience of Indigenous communities.
