Celebrating International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples under the Nagorikata-Civic Engagement Fund (CEF) Initiative.

On 9 August 2026, JSKS proudly observed the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples under the Nagorikata-Civic Engagement Fund (CEF) Initiative. The celebration was marked by vibrant rallies across Dinajpur Sadar, Birol, Kaharole, and Birganj Upazilas, bringing together Indigenous youth, women leaders, students, community members, and local stakeholders. Participants carried placards and banners advocating for the protection of Indigenous identity, land rights, cultural heritage, and meaningful participation in decision-making processes.
Following the rallies, inclusive discussion meetings were held in all four Upazilas, featuring the participation of Upazila Nirbahi Officers, government officials, policymakers, Adivasi leaders, journalists, and community representatives. These dialogues provided a vital space to highlight Indigenous rights, share community concerns, and explore collaborative solutions.
The Kaharole Upazila programme was graced by Ms. Katharina Konig, Deputy Team Leader of Nagorikata-CEF, and Mr. Arif Mahmud, Capacity Development Expert, alongside Mr. Ishteak Ahmed, AC-Land as Chief Guest, with participation from the Upazila Social Services Officer, Officer In-Charge, and other government officials. Mr. Mustafa Kamal, Executive Director of JSKS, also joined the programme.
In Dinajpur Sadar and Birol Upazilas, the events were further elevated by the participation of Honorable Members of Parliament alongside respective government officials, demonstrating strong multi-stakeholder commitment to Indigenous rights and inclusion.
Each event concluded with vibrant cultural performances by Indigenous cultural groups showcasing traditional music, dance, and heritage reinforcing cultural pride, solidarity, and the rich diversity of Bangladesh's Indigenous communities.
Together, we continue to advocate for a just, inclusive, and resilient society where Indigenous voices are heard and respected.
